Representative Netball

Associations

At Phoenix we are fortunate to be able to participate in two different associations:

  • Downey Park Netball Association (DPNA) (winter season)
  • Queensland Catholic Netball Association (QCNA) (summer season - night netball)

both associations operate from Downey Park Netball and towards the end of the calendar year operate a Player Development Program (PDP) and commence their representative selection process.

Representative Age

  • There are a number of different age groups for Representative Netball 
  • Both DPNA and QCNA rep teams will develop every player
  • Players can only play for one association, but can trial for both
  • Fees and uniform costs will be approximately the same for both


11 years (born 2011)

  • offered by both DPNA & QCNA, the 11 years representative teams play in a number of club carnivals as a representative team. Contact the respective associations for more information.

12-14 years (born 2008, 2009, 2010) - Junior State Age Championships

  • Trials occur in Feb/Mar, please see specific association information below
  • An A, B and development team may be chosen in each age group with a maximum of 30 players selected

  • Teams A, B & Development will attend a number of carnivals throughout the rep season in the lead up to the Junior State Age Championships.
  • Only teams A & B will attend Junior State Age Championships
  • Rep Training: DPNA - Tuesday evening, QCNA - Sunday afternoon at Downey Park 
  • Junior State Age Championships are held over 4 days in across the middle weekend of the June/July holidays

15-17 years (born 2007, 2006, 2005) - Senior State Age Championships

  • Trials occur in Nov or Feb, please see specific association information below
  • An A, B and development team may be chosen in each age group with a maximum of 30 players selected

  • Teams A, B & Development will attend a number of carnivals throughout the rep season in the lead up to the Senior State Age Championships.
  • Only teams A & B will attend Senior State Age Championships
  • Rep Training: DPNA - Tuesday evening, QCNA - Thursday evening at Downey Park 
  • Senior State Age Championships are held over 3 days on the May long weekend

15 years-Open (born 2007 or earlier for 2022 season)

GBNL - Greater Brisbane Netball League

  • An A & B team is selected in each age group U16 (2007, 2006), U18 (2005, 2004), U23 (2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999) & Opens depending on numbers
  • The Opens competition games occur on a Thursday night while U16, U18 & U23 games occur on a Friday night
  • Season runs from May to September
  • Trials typically occur in February

Sapphire Series

  • In addition to the Representative opportunities offered by our associations. Members over the age of 16 can also trial for Brisbane North Cougars
  • Trials for the Sapphire & Ruby teams typically occur early December in preparation for the following season

Emerging Talent Program (Netball Queensland)
  • Players can participate in the one day program. Members turning 15 or 16 can participate. For more information visit the Netball Queensland website

DPNA 10 & 11 years Kickstart program

The Kickstart Program has been created to give our younger and developing players the chance to start off their season with focused training sessions. Players will be trained by DPNA Representative Coaches, with the support of our Greater Brisbane Netball League (GBNL) players!


DPNA REP SELECTION PROGRAM (RSP) | 12 – 14yrs

The DPNA Representative Selection Program (RSP) provides players with the opportunity to represent DPNA at a level suitable to their ability, to provide opportunities for players to progress through Brisbane North Netball Region and Netball Queensland’s development pathways and to enhance player enjoyment of the game.

Greater Brisbane Netball League (GBNL) | U16, U18, U23 & Opens

The Greater Brisbane Netball League exists to provide opportunities for netballers over the age of 15* and includes Opens, U23, U18 and U16 Divisions. Opens play on a Thursday night, while U16, U18 & U23 play on a Friday night.

QCNA Representative selection

Key Dates: 
  • Trials occur February/March

QCNA offer a precursor to playing representative netball to players turning 11. The season incorporates three club carnivals with commitments ending in June

Players participating in the development program will have the opportunity to develop their skills and prepare for trials.
At least 2 teams will be selected for each age group and where possible a Development Team will also to be selected.

QC Netball has a strong presence in the GBNL competition and selects teams in U16, U18, I23 & Open age groups.
