Club Captains

At Phoenix Netball Club we encourage our players and coaches to be the best they can be, and we reward those who strive to stand up as leaders. The club's leadership program is designed to help create and develop strong leaders that will encourage participation and unity by creating bonds and connections across the club.

The program will ensure leaders are provided with skills rather than assuming they already know how to lead. The leadership program will include:

  • Training for members in club leadership roles, including coaches, managers and committee members.
  • Captain positions for playing members providing leadership opportunities in the club.

Captain positions

Players selected as captains will have a unique opportunity to receive leadership training and mentoring by qualified professionals and leaders with demonstrated experience.

Players in these roles will also be closely supported by the club’s management committee.

There are six club captain positions:

Club Captain and Club Vice Captain — appointed to lead the entire player body of the club. They will provide a link between the management committee and the playing body and will ensure the views of players contribute to the development of the club by providing advice and guidance from a player perspective. The Vice Captain will act in place of the Club Captain when they are absent.

Junior Captain and Junior Vice Captain — appointed to lead the junior players (11-15) of the club. They will provide a link between players, the Club Captain and management committee and support activities within the club for junior players. The Junior Vice Captain will act in place of the Junior Captain when they are absent.

Nippers (NetSetGO) Captain and Nippers Vice Captain — appointed to lead the NetSetGO (7-10 year old) player group. Be a part of Nipper player mentoring and responsible for supporting and helping to facilitate all activities for Nippers. The Nippers Vice Captain will work alongside the Nippers Captain and lead the Nipper player group within the club.

Captain responsibilities and duties

Being a leader in sport is a great privilege, but it also comes with responsibility and accountability to make decisions in the best interest of players and the club.
